This is a 2015 Ford Police Interceptor Utility finished in Ingot Silver Metallic with the two-tone Charcoal Black and Medium Dark Flint cloth seat interior. Ford doesn’t use the Explorer name on these police vehicles anymore but they do use the Explorer platform. The Ford Police Interceptor Utility along with the Sedan, replaced the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor after the 2011 model year and they are better vehicles in all respects. From its more powerful V6 engine over the Crown Vic’s V8 and the resulting better fuel economy, to All-Wheel-Drive performance on snow and ice covered roads that leave the CV slipping and sliding, the Police Interceptor Utility and Sedan is a more maneuverable, safer and less costly to operate vehicle compared to the CV. If you need maximum cargo capacity, the Utility has 166 cu. ft. interior volume vs. 119 cu. ft. in the Sedan, yet the Utility is almost 6 inches shorter than the Sedan. That makes for greater maneuverability on congested city streets.

This Ford Police Interceptor Utility is powered by a 304 horsepower 3.7 liter V6 engine that has received numerous rave reviews by engineers and the automotive press for it’s high power output, excellent economy and inherent smoothness. (In comparison, the 4.6L V8 Crown Vic engine puts out only 250 H.P.) It features an aluminum block and dual overhead cam (DOHC) 24-valve aluminum cylinder heads for light weight and excellent heat dissipation, Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) with the ability to advance or retard the timing of both the intake and exhaust camshafts independently, unlike previous versions of VCT which only operated on a single camshaft, for maximum power output at all engine speeds, sequential multiport fuel injection for excellent gas mileage, coil on plug (COP) ignition for reliability in all environmental conditions and drive by wire electronic throttle for precise control of drivability parameters. This V6 engine has more power than most V8’s had just a few years ago, and is just the ticket to optimize closing speed for rapid takedowns. It will handle any task you give it while delivering great fuel mileage. This 3.7L engine is much more trouble-free and cheaper to service and maintain than the complicated optional 3.5L Ecoboost engine with it's two turbochargers and associated intercoolers, plumbing, sensors and control system that will require more repairs as they accumulate more miles.

The engine is mated to a 6F55 6-speed automatic overdrive transmission that has a low first gear along with a 3.65:1 final drive ratio that provides brisk acceleration from a stoplight, while a high overdrive top gear allows for effortless highway cruising and great fuel economy. In fact, at 60 mph, the engine is only turning at around 1,500 rpm, which is very low for a 6-cylinder engine and which contributes to excellent gas mileage. This transmission is beefed up with police duty components such as friction materials, high capacity cooler and specific programming. Shift points are programmed to maximize V6 acceleration and the transmission adapts to the operator’s driving habits, tracking maneuvers for optimal response in cruising situations as well as pursuit mode. The transmission is backed up to a Police-calibrated full-time Intelligent All Wheel Drive (AWD) system for maximum traction on all surfaces. Pre-emptive torque is delivered by the millisecond among all 4 wheels to help maximize traction in snow or rain, on ice or gravel, and even when maneuvering on dry pavement. An active, on-demand coupler allocates a precise amount of torque from the front to the rear; up to 100% of available torque to either axle. There is no delay in delivery, and no wayward noises or clunks emanate from the system. Aggressive handling at any speed is predictable and easy. Intelligent AWD was co-developed with EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operator Course) instructors for the utmost responsiveness and performance in challenging occasions. It’s combined with an all-season traction control system and AdvanceTrac® electronic stability control which uses the components from the anti-lock brakes (ABS) system, electronic throttle and steering angle sensor to regulate engine torque to enhance directional control with over/understeering of the vehicle being counteracted by applying brakes to the appropriate wheel to create a countervailing vehicle movement for maximum safety and control in all driving situations.

Rounding out the Police Interceptor Utility are heavy-duty brakes, steering and suspension that respond in the name of control, capability and comfort to shrug off curb jumping maneuvers that would disable most civilian vehicles. Electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) adjusts to vehicle speed, crowned roads and crosswinds. For smooth, predictable, high-speed handling at every turn, the front and multilink rear suspensions are fully independent. Each one also incorporates a sturdy stabilizer bar to combat body lean. Helical coil springs and stiffened, gas-pressurized hydraulic shocks are made for the rigors of police work. Premium hubs and bearings are extra-large for extra-long durability. Heavy-duty anti-lock disc brakes (ABS) contribute to extreme high performance and Brake Assist can sense panic stopping and automatically apply all available power brake boost instantly to potentially reduce stopping distances. Heavy-duty wheels are teamed with police-purposed tires. Hefty 18" steel wheels are designed to withstand the punishment of daily duty and the 5-spoke design lets the brakes breathe freely and stay cool. Tires are constructed to maximize grip, handling, rigidity and tread wear. To keep things rolling, the spare is not only full size, it’s equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensor. It goes without saying that the Ford Police Interceptor Sedan is the most advanced law enforcement vehicle today and is quicker, handles better, is more economical to operate and is more durable than the offerings from Chevrolet and Dodge.

The Ford Police Interceptor Utility commands attention wherever it’s driven. A quick walk around the truck reveals how its aggressive stance and authoritative styling earns respect from those in law enforcement and civilians alike. Start up front with its sharp sleek lines including a large gloss black grille framing the traditional FORD blue oval emblem and a secondary air intake below it for maximum cooling. The grille is surrounded by a pair of clear lens projector beam headlights along with separate LED strobe WIG-WAGS hidden in the turn signals and red/blue corner LED strobes facing to the side. Under the grille you will find two LED strobes in red and blue, while above the grille you have the I N T E R C E P T O R emblem to let other drivers know at a glance what is behind them. A third center red/blue LED strobe is mounted at the back of the hood. The hood itself has two power bulges for a muscular look that flow back along the sides of the truck to the rear view mirrors containing red and blue LED strobes facing forward and red/blue LED strobes facing to the side. All wheel opening moldings have a scuff resistant matte black texture finish and there are large matching rocker panel moldings between them, while the black steel wheels with hubcaps show this vehicle means business. The rear quarter windows have red/blue LED strobes. On the roof, numerous communication and navigation antennas (disconnected) add another no-nonsense look. Then, going back, the vehicles’ lines flow into a tailgate with a gloss black air deflector on top. Under that are two red and blue LED strobes and a full width matte black molding houses the backup camera. The taillights have built-in red/blue LED strobes, and when the tailgate is open, two red and blue LED strobes increase visibility. Completing the look is the POLICE INTERCEPTOR nameplate on the tailgate along with additional matte black cladding on the bumper surrounding the dual exhaust pipe outlets.

For most drivers, this vehicle will be their office on wheels, so spending 8 hours a day in the cockpit should be an enjoyable experience. Lets go for a drive. If it’s a cold morning, grab the integrated remote/key combo and hit the remote start button. Then spend a minute or two finishing your morning coffee as the engine warms up and the heater starts working. Now go out and open the door, get in and sit down into a bucket seat that adjusts to the perfect driving position with 6-way power adjustment, manual recline and lumbar. Feel reassured that if you will be carrying any unruly perps in the back, anti-stab steel intrusion plates are built into the driver and front-passenger seat backs. Check out how comfortable yet supportive the cushions feel and how the upright seating position gives you a commanding view of the road out from the windshield. Next, adjust the power pedals and the tilt steering wheel to achieve complete driving control. Notice how the padded rim affords just the right grip and that the cruise control and information display switches are just a fingertip away. Then look ahead at the electroluminescent instrument cluster with the large 160 mph certified speedometer and easy to read secondary digital display and look up at the white/red dome light that is easy on the eyes at night. Lastly, check out the full-length center console with cup holders, power outlets and storage compartment with a comfortable armrest. Not only is the styling very handsome, but all the textures have a rich feel and look and all the switchgear have a precise soft touch action. From the tight weave of the cloth upholstery, the graining pattern on the dash and door panels, or the layout of the knobs and switches on the dash, everything looks and feels like it came from a more expensive vehicle. Step on the brake and place the space saving column mounted shift lever into reverse to back out of your parking space and watch the view through the backup camera display. Now get out on the road. Step on the accelerator and see how effortlessly the truck picks up speed. 60, 80, 100 mph in almost a blink of an eye. Check behind you for traffic, and if clear, step on the brake to feel how securely the vehicle scrubs off speed with it’s heavy-duty brakes. The truck is in excellent condition inside and out. It has a very straight body with no significant dings and just a few minor touched-up nicks or scratches you would normally expect on a truck of this age or mileage. The paint itself is beautiful and shiny throughout, and this shade of metallic silver just about glows in the sunlight. It has been fully detailed, first with Meguiar’s Iron Decon, then the paint was cleaned with Meguiar’s Smooth Surface Clay System, polished with Meguiar’s M110 Mirror Glaze polishing compound, then topped off with Meguiar’s M27 Pro Ceramic Hybrid Sealant for a durable long lasting brilliant high gloss shine. The textured plastic trim was treated with Cerakote ceramic coating and the tires dressed with Meguiar’s Endurance Tire Gel. All the glass, moldings and emblems are excellent. The interior is in great condition as well and has never been smoked in. The vinyl and plastic surfaces were cleaned with Meguiar’s Super Degreaser and then dressed with Meguair’s Hyper Dressing. It has excellent upholstery, dashboard and door panels with no significant signs of wear. The cargo area looks like it was hardly ever used and the engine compartment has been fully cleaned as well.

Mechanically it runs and drives excellent. The engine runs strong and feels smooth at idle, while accelerating and throughout the cruising range and it starts instantly whether hot or cold. The transmission shifts precisely at all speeds. The steering wheel is on dead center going down the road with no shakes or vibrations at speed, the brakes are firm with no pedal pulsations or pulling to one side when stopping and the suspension is tight. It has a matching set of five Goodyear Eagle RS-A police spec tires. These tires combine a high performance tread design, exceptional all-season wet/dry traction, extended comfort, with excellent high speed handling. They have two steel belts for puncture resistance with hard rubber sidewall reinforcements for enhanced steering response and cornering stability. The fronts have good tread, the rears fair and the spare is like new.

The truck has been fully checked out and serviced with $3,200 worth of new or recent parts, maintenance and repairs with original Ford, Motorcraft or other name brand parts so that only your enjoyment rather than your immediate attention will be required on delivery. So other than routine oil and filter changes, with all the above mentioned maintenance the truck has received, you should be good to go for a long time before requiring major parts or service. And not only will the Police Interceptor Utility be cheap to maintain, but also cheap to drive. It only requires regular gas and is also designed to run on E85 ethanol which is under $4 a gallon in most states and under $3 in a few. I’ve been getting over 20 mpg overall and can expect mid to upper 20’s on the highway at reasonable speeds.

If you are serious about buying a clean, ready for the road Ford Police Interceptor, this is about as low as they go in this condition. Sure, you can find some of these vehicles in the $8,000 to $10,000 range, but if after getting it home you have to spend another $4,000 or $5,000 on body repairs, mechanical work, brake and suspension repairs or cosmetic issues, it’s no bargain. Remember, you can get a great deal online with prices sometimes way below retail, but nobody is going to “steal” a vehicle and no seller is going to give one away either. Also when comparing prices to the other Police Interceptors listed for sale, remember the things that you won’t have to spend money on, soon after getting it home. With this vehicle you won’t have to spend $2,000 on paint or body work, you won’t have to spend $1,000 or $2,000 on engine or transmission work, you won’t have to spend $300 on a complete front brake service, you won’t have to spend $300 on a complete rear brake service, you won’t have to spend $300 on transmission fluid and coolant changes, you won’t have to spend $300 on a tune-up and filters service and you won’t have to spend $300 on any upcoming scheduled maintenance. With many of the other listings on Ebay, Craigslist or on dealers lots, you’re lucky if they even check the oil before delivery.
